STP WINS INDUSTRY AWARD FOR OUTAGE MANAGEMENT

May 5, 1997 -- Bay City, TX--The South Texas Project won a national nuclear industry Top Industry Practice Award in a competition sponsored by Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, the Nuclear Energy Institute and the Syracuse University School of Management.

The four largest U.S. nuclear energy industry suppliers--ABB Combustion Engineering, Framatome, General Electric and Westinghouse--each selected a semi-finalist and a finalist. STP’s Successful Refueling Outages Through Structured Team Development was selected by Westinghouse as their finalist.

"This is an especially gratifying honor because it recognizes the extraordinary teamwork that exists among the people of the South Texas Project," said Outage Manager Dave Stonestreet, who delivered the presentation and represented STP at the awards conference. "Our workforce as a whole contributed to and shares in the recognition. Many of the nuclear industry’s top leaders were present, and they were very complimentary of STP and our team-earned accomplishments."

STP’s winning presentation documented how the site transitioned from a refueling outage approach centered around primary work groups in vertical organizations to a site-wide embracing of teamwork and ownership, resulting in industry-leading 17- to 26-day refueling outages.
